Since its founding in 1973, the Irish Aikido Federation has had many University Aikido Clubs, in universities like Trinity College, University College Dublin UCD, TUD, NUIG Galway, Maynooth University, IADT Dun Laoghaire, and more.
We have some pages for our university clubs, some active, some on hiatus:
Trinity College Dublin (Dublin University) Aikido Club
University College Dublin (UCD) Aikido Club
You should enquire at your local university if there is an Aikido club, and if not, please send us an email if you would be interested in getting involved in creating one, whether you are an instructor, or a brand new beginner -
This is important, because if there is student or faculty involvement, the Irish Aikido Federation can assist with resources, like instructors, mats, publicity, etc.
To get in touch with us about getting involved in Aikido at a university level, please email us at ireland.aikikai@gmail.com.
Aikido at universities often produces great results and many people who go on to practice for many years, and can be a welcome relief from the day to day academic stresses of third level education.
There is also shared membership scheme between Aikido Centre Dublin, Wicklow Aikido Club, and University Clubs.
